Editorial cartoons for Nov. 10, 2024: Trump wins the presidency for second time

This week’s editorial cartoon gallery marks the election of Donald Trump as president for a second time. Trump decisively defeated Vice President Kamala Harris in the Electoral College, short-circuiting predictions of a race so close it would be contested for weeks or months.
Joey Weatherford leads the gallery with disbelief on both sides of the political divide: Democrats who can‘t believe Harris lost and Republicans who can’t believe Trump won. Dana Summers contrasts the blame game on one side and a happy jig on the other.
Phil Hands focuses on the task ahead to stitch together the Divided States of America. David Horsey dreads a return to the carnival ride of the first Trump presidency. Summers’ Trump tosses out the left‘s trash. Jack Ohman‘s Democrat ponders the wreckage of the “blue wall” of Great Lakes states; Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Michigan all went for Trump instead of Harris. Drew Sheneman‘s Uncle Sam explains the nation’s choice to a little girl: “Sorry about your rights, but groceries are really expensive right now.”
Before Election Day, cartoonists focused on the bruising, perpetual, ad-driven campaign, with offerings by Scott Stantis, Bill Bramhall, Michael Ramirez, Walt Handelsman.
In non-political news, Steve Breen pens a tribute to musician and producer Quincy Jones, who died at age 91; and Weatherford marks Veterans Day.
